Mount Rinjani Summit Trek 3-Day (Sembalun to Senaru Route)
Details
Get ready for an unforgettable mountain adventure with this 3-day, 2-night trek to the summit of Mount Rinjani (3,726 meters)—Indonesia’s second-highest volcano. This classic route starts in Sembalun Village and finishes in Senaru, offering a complete and challenging journey through the raw beauty of Lombok’s mountainous landscapes.
On Day 1, your adventure begins in the wide open grasslands of Sembalun. You'll trek uphill, passing through savannahs and steep ridges to reach Plawangan Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639m), where you’ll set up camp for the night. From here, the views are already stunning—with panoramic sights of the summit, the crater lake, and the island stretching out below.
Day 2 is the most demanding and rewarding part of the trek. You’ll begin before dawn for a summit push under the stars, reaching the top just in time to witness sunrise from the peak. From this incredible viewpoint, you’ll gaze out over Lombok, Bali, Sumbawa, and the shimmering waters of Segara Anak Lake below. After descending back to camp for breakfast, the journey continues into the caldera, where you can relax in natural hot springs and camp lakeside in one of the most dramatic mountain settings in Indonesia.
On Day 3, you'll climb out of the caldera and descend through the lush Senaru rainforest—a rich ecosystem filled with birdsong, cool mountain air, and towering trees. The trek ends in Senaru Village, where a refreshing drink and a sense of accomplishment await. As a bonus, you’ll also get to visit the stunning Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile waterfalls, making your journey complete.
With experienced guides, friendly porters, scenic campsites, and one of the best mountain views in Southeast Asia, the Sembalun–Senaru route is the most popular and iconic way to experience Mount Rinjani. It's the perfect trek for those who are physically fit and looking for a multi-day challenge with truly epic rewards.
